Key Management and Master Keys

Questions:

  • How are Keys Managed?
  • How are Master Keys Assigned?

Answer:

  • Every key assigned to an employee is documented and tracked through the service management request process.
  • One week prior to an employee separating from the organization, the supervisor is responsible for returning assigned keys to Facilities.
  • Suite master keys are intended for supervisors and office managers only. All keys must be approved by the requesting employee’s supervisor before the key will be issued.
  • Building master keys and exterior master keys are intended for limited individuals. All key requests for these keys must be approved by the unit or department head.

Benefits:

  • Improves safety and security of the organization and prevents unauthorized access to spaces.
  • Reduces the risk of lost or stolen keys.

Additional Information:

  • All Key Requests require supervisor approval.
  • Facilities Operations takes pride in the safety and security of the organization's facilities; therefore, an annual audit will be performed to make sure all keys are accounted for. Replacement costs for re-keying lost or misplaced keys is the responsibility of the individual dept. of the areas affected.
